This origami wild goose is quite easy to make but its unique because it starts with an equilateral triangle instead of a square sheet of paper. You can learn how to make an equilateral triangle from a square sheet of paper here or here.
Instructions for Origami Wild Goose
Step 1:
Start with a triangular sheet of paper. If you don’t know how to make one, get instructions here: equilateral triangle paper. |
Step 2:
Do again along the other corner: fold in half and unfold. |
Step 3:
Repeat one more time: fold the paper in half bisecting the third corner of the triangle. Unfold. |
Step 4:
Collapse the paper by folding along the crease lines made above. As shown in the picture, bring together the red dot and green dot towards the blue dot. |
In transition: keep collapsing the paper… |
Almost there, press down flat… |
Step 5:
Rotate the model a little to straighten out the model. The broad, flat edge should be on top and the obtuse corner should be pointing down. |
Step 6:
Fold the right side up so the sharp corner points straight up. |
Step 7:
Unfold the previous step. |
Step 8:
Make an inside reverse fold. To do this, pry open the layers and fold the paper inwards so it lies in between to the layers of paper. Use the creases made in step 6 as a guide. |
Step 9:
Fold the right-flap towards the left so the paper opens up like a diamond shape. |
Step 10:
On the left side of the model, there should be two flaps. Fold the bottom flap towards the right so the model looks symmetrical. |
Step 11:
The next few steps are a little tricky, you will be making a petal fold. Looking at the diamond shape in the middle of the model: fold the top-left edge of the paper towards the middle crease. Similarly, fold the top-right edge of the diamond towards the middle crease. Unfold. |
Step 12:
Fold the top-corner the diamond down. Use the creases made in step 11 to guide you. |
In transition. |
Press down, keep sides even. |
Step 13:
Turn the model over. |
Step 14:
Fold up the model as shown. |
Step 15:
Fold the model in half, left to right. |
Step 16:
Rotate the model a quarter turn to the left. |
Step 17:
Now we will work on the neck of the goose: fold up flap of paper so the neck will be at a nice angle. |
Step 18:
Unfold. |
Step 19:
Make an inside reverse fold to complete the neck of the origami goose. |
Step 20:
Make the head of the goose the same way. Make another inverse reverse fold near the tip of the paper so it forms the head. |
Step 21:
The origami wild goose is pretty much done. There are two ways to work on the wings. One of the ways makes the goose with wings that are perpendicular like an airplane. |
Step 22:
Fold both wings down so they are perpendicular to the body of the origami wild goose.. |
Step 22:
Fold the top wing down at an angle as shown. |
Step 23:
Variation 1 is done. |
Step 23:
Variation 2 is done. |
To make the mirror image of the origami wild goose, fold the model to the left in step 15. The finished bird will be facing towards the left.
