Easy Origami Pumpkin

Take a square sheet of paper and fold it along the diagonals and unfold. If you are using origami paper, place the white-side facing up.

Turn the paper over (the gray lines show “crease lines” which are the indented places where the paper was folded and unfolded.

Fold the paper in half (left to right) and unfold.

Fold the paper in half (top to bottom).

Grasp the top corners of the model and push them together. Note the location of the blue dot.

Continue until the model is collapsed into a square shape.

Bring the flap that is in front towards the right. This is the Preliminary Base which is a starting point for a lot of origami models. Make sure there is two flaps on the right and two flaps on the left.

We will work on the left flap: bring the top-left flap to the right side of the model.

Fold the flap so the top-edge aligns with the middle of the model.

Fold the bottom-edge so the edge aligns with the middle of the model.

Return this flap of paper back to the left side.

Work on the right flap: turn the right-flap of paper towards the left.

Fold the top-left edge so it aligns with the center of the model.

Fold the bottom-left edge so it aligns with the center of the model.

Return the flap of paper to the right.

To make the pumpkin shape, fold back (mountain fold) the top and bottom of the model.

Fold back (mountain fold) the left and right edges of the model.

The origami pumpkin is done. Decorate with eyes and mouth to make it a jack o’lantern.

To make a stem on top of the pumpkin, turn the model over and work on the back side.
Fold the top-flap so a bit of paper is sticking up.
