This traditional origami tree is a favorite! It is easy to fold and it looks great on a home-made holiday card. Both sides of the paper are visible in the finished model so it allows you to have a green tree with a white base. You can think of the base as a tree trunk or as the pot in which the tree is sitting in.
Instructions for Traditional Origami Tree
Step 1:
Start with origami paper which is different in color front/back. Position paper so it is “diamond” orientations with white-side facing up. Fold paper in half (right to left) and unfold. |
Step 2:
Fold the left-edge and the right-edge towards the central crease line made above. |
Step 3:
Turn the paper around. |
Step 4:
Fold the bottom-left and bottom-right edges of the paper towards the central midline. |
Step 5:
Turn paper around again. |
Step 6:
Fold the model in half (bottom to top). |
Step 7:
Note where the green-side of the paper switches to the white-side of the paper (straight arrow and blue dot). Fold the top-layer down in such a way so the blue dots align. |
Step 8:
Fold the bottom-tip of the model up (join red dots). |
Step 9:
Turn the model over and you’re done! |
Note how the tree on the right has a base that is slightly different in size/shape. You can achieve this my varying the location and distances of the folds in step 7 & 8. |
