Squash Fold
The Squash Fold comes in handy when it comes to making origami. The move is not difficult to do, but it might take a few tries before you can make a perfect squash. A perfect squash fold is even (same size on left and right) and aligned (crease lines and edges align perpendicular or parallel to each other).

Step 1:

In this example, we start with a preliminary base. Lift one flap so it is perpendicular to the paper.

Ease open the two layers of paper.

Step 3:

Press down evenly so the amount of paper on the left and right are the same and there is symmmetry.

Step 4:

Squash fold is done.




Here is an example of the squash fold being used to make a traditional origami house.

Step 1:

On the right side of the model, fold the top-layer of paper towards the left.

Step 2:

Press the top-corner down evenly so the amount of paper on the left and right are the same and there is symmmetry.


Step 3:

Squash fold is done.
