This Origami Fancy Heart is of unknown origin but it is often attributed to Stephen Hetch who showed diagrams of this origami design using a dollar bill (Change of Heart). You can use any rectangle which is longer than it is wide.
If you use origami paper which is colored on one side and white on the back side, then the center of the heart wil be white. If you use regular paper the same color on both sides, then the entire heart will be the same color but you can still see the decorative folds at the center of the heart.
This model is a little more hard to make compared to some of the easy origami hearts shown on this web site. However, with a bit of patience/practice and a large sheet of paper, you will be able to find success!
Origami Fancy Heart
Step 1:
Start with a square sheet of paper (if you are using origami paper, start with the white-side facing up). Cut the paper into two rectangles. |
Step 2:
Make a diagonal fold by folding the top-left corner down to the bottom-edge of the paper. Make the equivalent fold by folding the bottom-left corner up to the top-edge of the paper. Unfold to get an X-shaped crease. |
Step 3:
Repeat the two folds on the right-side of the model. |
Step 4:
Make two mountain folds (fold back). The folds should pass through the middle of the X-creases made in step 2. Unfold. |
Step 5:
Collapse the model by re-folding along the creases made above. It is like making two waterbomb bases. |
|
|
Step 6:
Fold the top-left corner of the paper towards the left corner of the model. |
Step 7:
Work with one panel at a time. |
|
|
Step 8:
Repeat squash fold with the other 3 panels. |
Step 9:
Work with one panel at a time. |
|
Step 10:
Pry open the two layer of papers and squash down flat. |
Step 11:
Repeat with the other 3 square flaps. |
Step 12:
Fold down (mountain fold) the back layer of paper. |
Step 13:
Make the corners less pointy by folding it back a little. |
