This is a second method of making the origami Lovers Knot; it is an alternate design which starts with a waterbomb base and bypasses the pinching part (step 7 of original design). The pinching step is not difficult to do, but it is difficult to describe so in terms of making diagrams, Lovers Knot 2 is easier to describe.
Regardless of which method you use, the final model is the same. The Lover’s Knot is so named because it is said that you can write secret love notes in it and then have the message safely delivered. The origami folds are so involved that it is difficult for anyone to unfold the model and be able to fold it back again. This ensures that your message is delivered unopened and its contents remain private.
Instructions for Lovers Knot 2 (second method)
Step 1:
Start with a square sheet of paper with the color-side facing up. Fold and unfold in half both directions (left to right; then top to bottom). Turn the paper over. |
Step 2:
Fold along the diagonal and unfold. Do this in both directions to get a X-shaped crease.
|
Step 3:
Bring the top edge of the paper down to meet with the bottom edge; at the same time, bring the left and right edges towards the center. The model should fold along the existing creases.
