This Easy Candy Cane will delight young children. It is easy to make and it can be done fast – instant gratification without the cavities. The model is good for decorating a tree, decorating a gift, or it can be placed on card stock and made into a card.
Instructions for Easy Candy Cane
Step 1:
Start with a square sheet of paper that is red on one side and white on the back side. Place the paper so it is white-side up and in “diamond” position (balanced on one of its corners). Fold the paper in half (bottom to top) except not exactly in half. Leave a small gap at the top so a bit of white paper is showing.
|
Step 2:
Turn the paper over.
|
Step 3:
Fold up the bottom just a bit – the size of this fold will define the width of your candy cane.
|
Step 4:
Notice that a bit of white paper is showing at the edges of the paper. Fold the paper up again.
|
Step 5:
Now you have two stripes of white on the left and right sides. Fold the paper up again.
|
Step 6:
Continue folding the paper up so you get more red and white stripes.
|
Step 7:
Keep going until all the paper has been folded into a flat tube. Depending on the type of paper you use, you may need a dab of glue or a piece of tape to tack down the paper. Otherwise, it might unravel.
|
Step 8:
Estimate approx 1/3 the distance from one end of the paper. Fold up the paper so it is perpendicular like the letter “L”.
|
Step 9:
Make another perpendicular fold on the tip of the short end of the “L”. This makes a hook.
|
Step 10:
Rotate slightly and you’ve got yourself an origami
