Book Ornaments : Folded Book Art

These book sculpture ornaments look like Christmas decoration! In order for them to be functional, the books need to be small and light weight. For design B and C, you only need about 20 pages because each page is folded upon itself many times making the final sculpture quite bulky.

The instructions on how to make these ornaments are abbreviated – it is assumed that you have made a few of the other projects on this website before attempting to make these sculptures. The method for all three designs is similar. Pick and choose which one you would like to make, or make all three!

Start with a book; in this example, the book was a day-planner donated by Slingshot (read more here). Remove the front and back cover but leave the pages bound together. Without ripping off the pages, remove small bits of binding glue that may still be adhering to the spine.

Book sculptures or altered books are often created by modifying the pages of a book while the pages are still bound together. You can cut, fold, paint, and do all sorts of interesting things with the paper to create beautiful structures. The book sculptures on this web site are made by folding only.
